The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and energized CAD Draughtsperson to join a leading infrastructure consultancy and contribute to the growth and development of a business with a reputation for technical excellence and strong client relationships. We are looking for candidates with a passion for innovation and providing innovative problem-solving that will add value to SMEC. The successful incumbent shall be highly productive in their day to day tasks and also strive to align themselves and their work ethic to our company values.

Primary purpose of position

To provide 3-D building modelling, reinforced concrete and structural steel detail drafting services and prepare documentation for building projects as well as provide other appropriate technical support.

Key Responsibilities 

With a minimum of 5 years' drafting experience, you will play a key role in:

• Ensuring projects are documented within guidelines set by Supervisor
• Producing accurate, high quality drawings and documentation
• Ensuring tasks are completed to program
• Showcasing ability to use office systems relevant to tasks
• Understanding the use and importance of standards in the application of software tools
• Ensuring appropriate technical and drawing standards and quality procedures are maintained on all projects
• Taking ownership and responsibility for own work

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required

Suitable applicants will have/ be:

• National Diploma (Civil / Structural Engineering or equivalent)
• 5 years minimum drafting experience as specialist Reinforced Concrete Structures Draughtsperson
• Experience in the use of AutoCAD, and similar Rebar detailing systems
• Experience in building and general structures detailing advantageous, as well as construction (site) experience
• Ability to read drawings and interpretation of three dimension visuals
• Ability to use Rivet Structures and 3-D modelling advantageous

Other Requirements

Invited applicants to bring the following during their interview:

• Portfolio of evidence to showcase experience
• CAD work; Design calculation of simple structures; leading a CAD team, Rebar detailing and bending schedules for previously completed projects of complex nature.
• 3D CAD work
