Exciting opportunity, Urban Engineering - residential housing land development projects in Melbourne. SMEC has won a number of major projects and we are currently looking to ramp up our Urban Engineering and Design Offices to cater for the additional work load.

The Urban Development Consulting Division of SMEC employs professional staff including Civil Engineers, Surveyors, Town Planners, Urban Designers and Master Planners, Landscape Architects and Project Managers.  We provide integrated consulting services needed to plan, design, construct and manage projects from concept to completion.

The role

We are currently seeking Senior Project Manager to manage a number of our most complex and high profile urban development and residential subdivision projects.

This role requires about 6+ years’ experience, preferably in Melbourne’s land development market, to successfully deliver land development projects on behalf of our Urban Engineering business. Reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, you will play a key role in the co-ordination and management of major projects across the entire project life cycle including feasibility, design and construction management. Core responsibilities include:

  • Provision of project management and project governance disciplines to achieve reliable project performance in terms of sophistication, timeliness and quality
  • Financial management, client liaison and contract administration of assigned projects
  • Oversight and governance of projects to resolve project issues and ensure project product is of high quality
  • Promotion and application of internal project management requirements
  • Provision of coaching and support to project personnel
  • Technical problem solving
  • Building and maintaining strong and effective client relationships

Suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Urban residential land development experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering
  • Knowledge of relevant design codes, Local Regulatory Authority Guidelines and Australian Standards
  • A track record of achievement in a similar role and a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work
