The role

Due to recent growth, SMEC's environmental team in Sydney is looking to expand and requires a Technical Principal, Environmental Scientist with Environmental Effects Statement EES/EIS/General Approvals experience focused on infrastructure projects (Roads/Rail/Utilities).

With a minimum of 20+ year’s relevant experience in Environmental Approvals and project management, you will play a key role in leading and delivering complex major infrastructure projects in NSW for our key clients. The role will also be responsible for the management of client relationships and for ongoing business development in the NSW Environmental Approvals.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Ensure that technical tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC
  • Apply project management principles in carrying out tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely manner
  • Proactively collaborate with appropriate team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and co-ordination of project deliverables
  • Build and maintain effective relationships internally and externally and contribute to effective client relationship management
  • Actively contribute to the commercial success of projects and the team

Suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Degree qualified in Environmental Sciences or related field
  • Substantial experience in major transport/infrastructure projects in NSW
  • 20+ years of experience in managing relevant environmental approval and resources projects
  • Excellent project management skills. Ability to lead a team to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Team management experience. You will be able to motivate and lead a team of high performers
