About The Role

At SMEC, we pride ourselves in having a strong team of technical specialists who both support and are supported by the next generation of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Specialists.

Due to our continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen at our Sydney office for a Graduate of Communications, journalist or Marketing to work with our team of Environmental Scientists and Engineers. This role is to support our stakeholder engagement specialists in putting together concise and appropriate external communications for clients, members of the public and all other relevant stakeholders. 

As a graduate in our Environment team, you will have access to a range of professional development opportunities, collaborate with our global team of specialists and be mentored by passionate leaders. Your skills and knowledge will be stretched through collaborative projects with some of the most respected specialists in the industry including the wider multi-disciplinary business of ecologists, geotechnical specialists, engineers and designers.


About You

With a minimum of a degree in a communications related field, we are looking for someone who brings passion for community engagement to this role.

In addition, suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good command of English
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to work in a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • A good understanding of professional consultation practices and the principles of public participation in development planning and delivery
  • Ability to undertake event coordination and participate in public consultation and facilitation activities
  • Experience in managing day-to-day customer relation activities including contact databases preferred
  • Experience in coordinating or participating in public events for both community members and technical stakeholders preferred
