The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and energized Technologist (Geometric Design) to join a leading infrastructure consultancy and contribute to the growth and development of a business with a reputation for technical excellence and strong client relationships. We are looking for candidates with a passion for innovation and providing innovative problem-solving that will add value to SMEC. The successful incumbent shall be highly productive in their day to day tasks and also strive to align themselves and their work ethic to our company values.

Level reports to

Engineer/ Senior Engineer

Primary purpose of position

This position is responsible for geometric design of road projects within the Roads and Highways Functional Group in Cape Town, and providing assistance to Engineers/ Senior Engineers.

Key Responsibilities 

With a minimum of 3 years of geometric road design experience, your key responsibilities will include:

· Making good decisions on own initiative.
· Drafting technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
· Showcasing ability to present/ represent his specific technical work (presentations/ meetings). Familiar with geometric design work procedures.
· Understanding local functional business technologies and markets.
· Good software tool understanding, works alone with minimum supervision whilst producing tool deliverables.
· Showcasing ability to organise information well and communicate design intent through software tool output. e.g. Structure a drawing correctly and communicate design intent through drawing using CAD.
· Understanding the principles of the geometric design process and how design is translated into deliverables through use of software tools.
· Understanding the key project issues and how these influence their individual work.
· Taking ownership and responsibility for their own work and completing it to time and cost

Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Suitable applicants will have/ be:

· BTech (Civil Engineering) degree from accredited university/ college
· Minimum 3 years of geometric road design experience with a specific emphasis on urban roads and freeways.
