The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Engineer to join a leading infrastructure consultancy and contribute to the growth and development of a business with a reputation for technical excellence and strong client relationships.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The scope of the project consists of advising/assistance to client, supervisor and management on issues related to quality and safety provisions of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory analysis and supervise all kinds of tests such as earthworks, subgrade, improved subgrade, sub-base, base, asphalt concrete and cement concrete etc.
  • Oversee technician’s performance in various lab spaces;
  • Update and manage inventory tracking system and management of all lab equipment;
  • To supervise the operation of the Contractor’s soil and construction laboratories and the concrete mixing plant to ensure that a quality product is available for the construction of the project’s earth embankment, concrete dam and other civil structures;
  • Review the Contractor’s Quality Plan, laboratory and concrete mix plant facilities and the qualifications and training requirements of the Contractor’s laboratory operating personnel;
  • Responsible for the design of concrete and grout mixes which may have to be modified from time to time to suit varying site and construction conditions and issue reports detailing the materials used for the construction of the project works;
  • Supervise the preparation of O&M manuals and the preparation of ‘as-built’ drawings for the completed concrete works of the project;
  • Strictly adhere to SMEC’s Business Management System (BMS);
  • Any other tasks assigned by Team Leader/ Resident Engineer.

Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum graduation in Civil Engineering from reputed university;
  • At least 15 years of professional experience;
  • Related experience in construction supervision of major rail/bridge project.
