The role

We are currently seeking a Traffic / Transport Engineer to work closely with our other specialists in the Traffic Engineering and Road Safety team. This opportunity is a permanent role based out of our Melbourne office.

With a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in Traffic / Transport Engineering, you will play a key role in:

  • Ensuring that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC E
  • Experience in road and civil project design and development would be advantageous
  • Collaborating with appropriate team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and co-ordination of project deliverables
  • Contributing to the commercial success of projects and the team
  • Applying project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard and in a timely manner

The ideal candidate will have accumulated some traffic engineering and road safety experience in a relevant setting (such as local government, state government or agencies, and/or consulting) and is looking for a new challenge. You will work co-operatively within a team of senior, intermediate and junior engineers, planners and other disciplines. You should have a passion for building long-term relationships with clients to win new work and deliver it to the client’s satisfaction.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Bachelor degree qualified in engineering preferably Civil Engineering
  • Experience in preparing traffic, parking, road safety and/or integrated transport planning assessment reports;
  • A strong understanding of traffic performance measures at intersections and along sections of roads
  • An awareness of the suitability and limitations of different modelling software packages;
  • Passionate about pursuing a career in traffic and transport engineering, contributing to a broad range of multi-disciplinary projects
  • Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm to contribute in the road safety space, including in Road Safety Audits, Safe Systems Assessments, and/or road safety evaluation projects, and a desire to seek best-practice road safety outcomes for all road users
  • Experience in road and civil project design and development would be advantageous
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment.
