The role

We are currently seeking a Country Manager for our New Zealand business to provide effective and visible leadership, externally and internally and to grow the scale and profitability of SMEC’s operations in New Zealand in line with SMEC’s Strategic Plans, Business Plans and financial targets. The Country Manager will adopt a whole of SMEC view, reinforcing collaboration across functions/sectors, provide governance on major projects and be accountable for the profitability of the business at a national level. The Country Manager will represent and capitalise on SMEC’s full capabilities into the New Zealand market. The role has a unique ability to realise synergies between Business Units, Markets and even wider group capabilities developing business and client relationships and positioning the SMEC brand to a high level of prominence in the market.

Key Accountabilities

  • Grow the scale and profitability of the National business through a focus on strategic clients and the effective governance of business.
  • Provide business leadership for employees and clients to achieve SMEC’s Strategic Plans, Business Plans and Engage programs.
  • Develop Business, Client relationships and Brand Position in line with the CRM strategy whilst Facilitate synergies and efficiencies across offices (incl. GDC), business units and group entities.
  • Deliver operational efficiencies through the effective management of internal assets and facilities.
  • Responsibility for supporting national functions and initiatives at a national level, particularly in People & Culture and Health, Safety, Environment & Quality.

Experience

  • At least 10-15 years’ experience in a similar position and the demonstrated ability to:
  • Have succeeded in a similar role in a corporate environment.
  • Produce quality outcomes within an environment with competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Work independently towards achieving objectives without supervision.
  • Effectively plans and executes strategic initiatives.

Skills Knowledge

  • Proven management experience at a senior level
  • Exceptional communication skills to provide advice and guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively identify the appropriate resourcing and skills development within the country.
  • High level commercial acumen and effective strategically planning skills.
  • Strong leadership and motivational ability
  • Vision, drive and focus to support the delivery of winning proposals.
  • Clear and persuasive writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • High level of industry knowledge
  • Strong understanding of SMEC's organisational capability
  • Awareness of SMEC Business Systems including:
    • Project Management
    • WHS Management
    • High level application of CRM principals
  • Advanced level in MS Office
